September 2013

The following enhancements have been made to Proofpoint Essentials during the month of September, 2013:

1. In order to provide additional protection against viruses and other forms of malware, we have taken two steps:

a. An additional virus scanning engine has been implemented.  We have integrated the F-Secure anti-virus engine, which is the standard for Proofpoint cloud deployments and provides a very high level of accuracy.

b.  In addition, to provide greater protection against zero-hour attacks, a global policy has been implemented to block all executable attachments (.exe, .dll, .bat) for all Outbound and Inbound emails for all Users of the system, whether licenced or non-licenced. Blocked emails will be listed in the user interface (Email Logs) for users and/or administrators to view.  At this time these emails will not be included in the quarantine digest.

2. In order to provide protection against compromised systems sending spam or malware through the system, which can cause reputation problems with email providers and DNSBL's, all Outbound email is now being filtered for Spam. Blocked emails will be listed in the user interface (Email Logs) for users and/or administrators to view.

3. As part of our ongoing improvements for spam detection, enhancements have been implemented to increase the efficiency of the detection. Proofpoint Essentials spam detection will now be more accurate, and will react faster to reported Spam.

Please note that the learning mechanism for the Anti-Spam engine is based on content. Please encourage all users to report Spam so that the system can learn from these.

5. The incorporation of Proofpoint's own highly reputable IP reputation system,  Proofpoint Dynamic Reputation (http://www.proofpoint.com/datasheets/email-security/DS-Proofpoint-Dynamic-Reputation.pdf) to ensure the integrity of IP addresses connecting to our system. If a user is being blocked by this list then please see http://www.proofpoint.com/support/ip-lookups.php
